iskwē | ᐃᐢᑫᐧᐤ (short for waseskwan iskwew, meaning “blue sky woman”) is a creator of music and a teller of stories that have impacted our past and will inform our future. iskwē is a Cree-Métis Two-Spirit woman from Treaty One Territory. She was born and raised in Winnipeg, Man., the birthplace of the Métis Nation. iskwē’s strong and emotionally expressive vocals are neatly framed in a dramatic powerful sound.
Her album acākosīk garnered a 2020 JUNO nomination for Adult Alternative Album and the single “Little Star” took home the Music Video of the Year award. Her latest album, The Stars, is a reimagination of her album acākosīk. It is an elegant and intimate collection of songs featuring new arrangements with piano, cello and violin. “Night Danger (Lovers Mix)” is given a dramatic orchestral reimagining allowing iskwē’s song writing, voice, and spirit to shine.
